GARDEN PLANNING

It’s been exactly a week since we’ve arrived at the new place. Slept it off a bit, came back to senses after our adventures with the road and the car. The clean air makes us dizzy, as if we’re being held in an oxygen box.

The most essential tasks were not postponed by us: the internet, TV, and some other things had started working at our place in the first few days after the arrival. There’s one important thing left – a roomy cage for our rats. The girls – rats had already been in a small cage during the renovation at our Chelyabinsk’s apartment, and the plan now is to move them into a real castle. The issue with the net was solved today – we’d found a hardware store in Matveev Kurgan. And… the eyes were running all over the place: they have such a variety of products, even the chain link fence for mice. However, we’d picked the net according to our preferred sizes. And tomorrow this store will be stocked with more of the similar. The net will certainly be useful in chores!

Starting morning, we’ve been fixing the car and doing some planting, and after lunch we ran to Matveev Kurgan for the net and the accumulators for the radio set. Meanwhile, we realized that the mechanics, who revived our car nearby Volgograd but harmed part of the motor on the way, also stole some of our instruments. Damn it. What makes it so appealing to take someone else’s iron things? Not unless under the assumption that we are having a one-way-only trip? Incomprehensible. But… We will fix this a bit later: stock up on some instruments as well as bring the car to a good state.

There is a lot of land. We’ve decided not to fear it, but to start exploring it according to a plan. The soil is silky, it can be leveled out with hands. It gives out the feel that is close to sand, very unusual. This year our plantations will be kind of experimental. We’ve collected some exotic and regular kinds; we will see how the soil works. Possibly, nothing is going to grow out of it at all! Possibly, the opposite. And the very next year we will be choosing the seeds for the plantation based on this year’s results.

Throughout today/yesterday we planted: chickpea, wild bean, variety of onions, parsnips, the tiny kind of tomatoes, the round red pepper and hot pepper(do not recall the class name), sunflowers, a huge pumpkin(it’s literally named “one hundred pound pumpkin”), and a very funny decorative zucchini. It will take the form of a swan. Oh! Also, radish, and something else… Tree-wise, we planted three kinds of cherries. All in all, we were occupied with nothing boring. Prior our arrival, there was a tractor that plowed the site, so every new garden bed is started with trampling the border.

It’s very convenient, and it also looks quite neat. The only thing that’s left is to wait for the first sprout, so that our souls could finally settle.

Once the sprouts come up, I will share the pictures and more details about what breed they are, how to care for them etc. For now, here are a few pictures from our trip today. We wanted to “catch” some pheasants. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, we didn’t see any. Not one, like on purpose. At least we shot some nice views and interesting “pretzels” of the planes’ tracks. For some reason, the planes were flyng in oval trajectories. It looked mesmerizing; on almost empty sky with the light drag of clouds.

The roads are like the imperishable: “Clean is not where it’s cleaned. Clean is where it’s not trashed.” There is no trash. Regardless, the spring cleaning along the roads is going on. Subtle, but very thorough.

In the evening we finally got to the box with the blender. I prepared homemade mustard and mayo with the real milk this time, and not the powdered one. We’ll try it tomorrow :)
